“And you, who were once alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight – if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard, which was preached to every creature under heaven, of which I, Paul, became a minister.” Colossians 1:21-23 (NKJV)
I want you to think of a time in your life where you may have had an enemy. Someone who you may not have liked very much. Whether that was in elementary, high school or maybe even now. Somebody who you just couldn’t stand and got on your last nerves. Anybody come to mind? (If not, no worries, you are just perfect! HA!) Well anyways, think about if one day you found out that the very person you disliked the most just gave their life for you, so you could live. And not just wake up and go about your day, but really live. Live a life that is completely full. Experience joy and love and all the things that God created for you to enjoy. Would you feel bad for how you treated that person? Would it make you want to go back in time and take back what you did to them? Yeah, I thought you might say yes. I know I did. But this is LITERALLY the very thing that Christ did for us ALL on the cross. The day He chose to give His life was the day we actually gained ours. Regardless of how people had treated Him, despite the fact that many called Him a liar and fake. And not to mention that He knew which ones would completely reject Him in the future, HE STILL POURED OUT HIS BLOOD for us. Me and you and the person you think might be the worst person ever. He still gave His life for them. Because let’s be real, we suck. We fail as human beings every single day. We talk about other people, we just walk right over a piece of trash on the street, we spend way too much money on In N Out and waste too much of our time wishing we could have the life of which ever celebrity is “in” at the moment. We were created to simply live a life pleasing to God. That’s it. Whatever He may ask of us, we should do without thinking. If there is some type of pain involved, well that shouldn’t matter. (But it does.) The enemy is out to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10). And he will stop at NOTHING to make sure you don’t prosper in this life. That you feel so defeated you choose to give up on the very person who laid it all down on the cross for you. Paul reminds us that Christ will see us as holy, blameless and above reproach. But, we are to CONTINUE in the faith, be STEADFAST, GROUNDED and NOT MOVED. We are living this life for HIM. The only ONE who can love us just as much no matter how many times we have failed. We are in a long-distance race. Running to the goal which is in heaven with our Father. ENDURANCE IS KEY WHEN RUNNING A MARATHON. So, stay strong. Stay motivated. Be encouraged. Never settle for what the enemy offers you at the moment but hold fast to what God has promised you in the end.
